Day 111 - Go Leafs!!! D'OH!

Day 111 - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

At the beginning of the Maple Leafs season I got online and searched for tickets. The only tickets left (under four figures!) were for the fourth last game of the season ie tonight. So I bought three. That was months ago.

Ian and I took Connor with us. Nose-bleeders I believe is the term for where we ended up. When we looked behind us there was a big… Continue

Day 110 - Weather Obsession

Day 110 - Monday, March 29, 2010

Now, I know I might bang on about the weather here a little bit too much. But really - it's quite mad. This morning we woke to see everybody's balcony had become a skating rink due to flooding rains last night that froze.

So again I make them all wear their winter woolies and again they come home and whinge at me.

But that was a top of 6. What are they going to do on Friday when IT REACHES 28 DEGREES CELSIUS. That's right, 28. Not… Continue

Day 109 - Cesy's New Wellies

Day 109 - Sunday, March 28, 2010

Francesca's new boots trying out a puddle

Francesca just HAD to have new wellingtons. She's mentioned this a few hundred times in the last few weeks. Because one can't possibly wear snow boots in the rainy season. Apparently one doesn't wear simple regular boots either. No, the Canadians,… Continue

Day 107 - Lunch at Aunty Lu’s

Day 107 - Friday, March 26, 2010

Blue Skies … Holy glacier!

We woke in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the charming Vintage Hotel, The Pillar and Post, to magnificent blue skies. We tripped out the door in our sweaters, pants and little else.

We got three…

Day 106 - Cross Border shopping is RICOCKULOUS!

Day 106 - Thursday, March 25, 2010

So, we wake up this morning with all the intentions to have a lazy jaunt down to Buffalo, a spot of shopping in the USA and back to Niagara-on-the-Lake for a lovely couple of days with my sister and her family.

Cruisey.

WRONG – Not…

Day 104 - Part 2 - Go Leafs!! (Or is it Leaves?)

Day 104 - Tuesday, March 23, 2010

We went to our first NHL hockey game tonight.

The Leafs v the Florida Panthers.

The seats were AMAZING. I am on the wait list as all seats were sold out before the season even began. So they emailed yesterday to tell me that there were some left. They were exxy so we left the kids at home. We had a blast! Sport over here is such a hyped up,… Continue

Day 104 - Tuesday, March 23, 2010

What? My all-time favourite band, the Bare Naked Ladies, are playing today in an small venue, downtown at First Canadian Place for FREE?!? And they're releasing their new album today and I can get it for ten bucks and get it signed??? TODAY?? NO WAY!!!!!

Way!

Lucky Ian was reading the paper this morning and found this little tidbit in the… Continue

Day 103 - Ontario Science Centre

Day 103 - Monday March 22, 2010

Hair by Van de graff Generator at the Ontario Science Centre

Saturday night was my birthday party. It couldn't have been better if I'd planned it myself. Well I did plan it myself but I had no idea that Josos, the famous Toronto restaurant I had booked was famous for its seafood! And being a strict aquatarian, it… Continue

Day 97 - More Sun and Snow

Day 97 - Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Again I piked out on the slopes. So slack really, but the village is lovely. Francesca skiied a little in the morning and then came out to lunch with me.

Then we had a little float around the village, shopping together.

We picked the little boys up from ski school. Their teacher, Matt, is so impressed with the two of them. He says they're really strong. Especially Lucas. …

Day 96 - Bon Anniversaire a ... MOI!!

Day 96 - Monday 15 March, 2010

Yes, today is my birthday and what a lucky 42 year old princess I am! This would have to rate as one of my best birthdays ever. My darlings all decided a kiss and a hug was the best present to give. How didthey know?! That was exactly right. Especially with Lucas doing it by sign

language first with little x fingers and a donut. Too…

Day 98 - Fondue

Day 98 - Thursday, March 18, 2010

We all skiied today. Again the weather was incredible and again we enjoyed a delightful lunch alfresco. The mountain is fantastic, the runs are long and wide and a lot of fun. Of course the snow is a little challenging - either crunchy, ice surprise or slushy, ankle breaking but it was magnificent if you take it slow and steady.

The little boys got Matt again, about which they… Continue

Day 95 - Quebec est magnifique!

Day 95 - Sunday March 14, 2010 (Happy 40th Anniversary Russ and Di)

Voila! Nous ont en Quebec. Il est tres jolie, tres francais and tres chaud! Pas de neige

We are at Mont Tremblant in Quebec. It is divine. Being in Quebec is like being in another country. You totally expect to change your currency at the border. We flew on Porter - that fab little airline we love so much that flies from… Continue

Day 94 - Rain Rain Be Snow!

Day 94 - March 13, 2010

Elliot had a sleep-over at his little friend's house last night. The first Canadian sleep-over. He loved it. Except for the boy's tarantula he keeps in his room. The mum had to take it out. But they're a really great family so we're very happy that Elliot was brave enough to stay out all night.

What's with this drippy weather? We can get this kind of stuff in Melbourne. All eleven degrees and rain, rain, rain,… Continue

Day 92 - Avatar

Day 92 - Thursday 11 February, 2010

Summer has come to Toronto. It's bliss walking around downtown in regular shoes and unencumbered by woolly accessories.

Cesy, Ian and I went wandering in some of the cool districts of the city - Dundas Street, Queen St West and of course the Eaton Centre had to have another go. Stupidly. We could find something more interesting than what is essentially Southland but underground. We did discover… Continue

Days 89-91 - Big Sis in NOTL

Days 89-91 - Monday-Wednesday 8-10 March, 2010

Francesca is out of her mind with stress at being surrounded by some very nasty girls in her class. She's overwrought and showing all kinds of signs of anxiety including night terrors, snippiness, short-temperedness. After a big talk all these symptoms evaporated as soon as I suggested she stop going to school for the remainder of the term. Her sweet natured little self came right back - thank God -… Continue

Days 87-88 - Not again Lucas!

Days 87-88 - Weekend 6-7 March

Happy Birthday Cookah!!

We went ravine-ing this morning and Sean came too. Sean is hilarious. He is Lucas' friend from school and lives up the road. He has the same accent as Baby Bear from Sesame Street and loads to talk about.

It was a very sunny five degrees and the ravine was all iced over from the previous night so it was treacherous and… Continue

Day 86 - Speed Week

Day 86 - Friday March 5, 2010

Well the scientists did mention that the Chile earthquake was so great it actually shortened our days somewhat. But that week was ridiculous. We didn't seem to even do much, it just flew in a flurry of regular family life.

Amongst the many exciting events was this: Ian got new shoes. He says they're 'ace'.

Oh, what a… Continue

Days 80-81 - HOCKEY GOLD FOR CANADA!!!

Days 80-81 - Weekend February 27-28, 2010

A very good thing happened to this fine country this afternoon.

First of all you really have to understand that Canadians live and breathe hockey. They are mad for it. They cannot get enough of the stuff.

For example, on Friday night we went to see a local team play. Not the Nationals, just the Provincial level. There were double the… Continue
