Merry Christmas

25 December 2010Well, what's Christmas Day without being surrounded by family. After a ridiculously exciting morning ripping open Santa's offerings and not noticing that they were surrounded by packing boxes and minimal furniture, we headed off to Aunty Luann's House in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's officially a white Christmas with…See More

Bit o religion

Saturday December 18, 2010Elliot, Connor, Francesca, Oscar Varkey and Cesy's good friend Laura (Vermont Laura)Owen Varkey is in The Christmas Story at The Holy Trinity Church downtown. It is Toronto's second oldest church and the production is in its 73rd year so it's all terribly ritualistic and traditional. We went to see…See More

Good byes SUCK

Friday December 17, 2010 So it had to happen. It was always on the cards a year after we said hello to this Waldorf School we knew we were going to have to say good-bye and it was today and it was extremely difficult.Well, not for Lucas but it was for the rest of us. They made such a fuss over us in the final assembly. They're just the loveliest people. Some of my closest friends wrote an article about us for the school newsletter which was just so heartfelt it was hard to read. The…See More

The Fabulousness of Felting

Wednesday 15 December 2010  My beautiful ladies from this year's crafting mornings came over last night. We were there to teach those needle felting admirers who hadn't learned the skill yet. The sweet and patient talented Marion Chow taught us how to do an angel. The range of angels was absolutely fabulous. From Boticelli to…See More

More Oslo

(Sweet girls)Francesca has been most unwell so we haven't seen as much of Oslo as we had intended. But the ER department is excellent! Like the rest of Oslo/Norway, it is efficient, respectful, pragmatic and very good looking in a well scrubbed kind of way. Our doctor was blonde and called Sven. Of course he was. I do love a good stereotype. Francesca has an ear and throat infection and it looks like swine flu. It's been a very quiet trip here as she recovers. It is utterly freezing. Which is a…See More

Update

20 November 201020 November? You're kidding right? My God, do you know what I have to DO in a month!??! Anyway, I'm sure I'll manage. It's been very busy of late as you can see by the lack of blogs.Connor: Curling has become a favourite activity. That's right, that weird bowls like game involving a broom and taking place on ice. It's a huge Canadian thing and as Paul and Steph are members of the Cricket Croquet and Curling Club it only makes sense that their kids are in the junior curling team.…See More

Day One
Saturday December 12, 2009 Mark I

A day of travel. Starting at 10:00am by wishing Nan good-bye (who made me promise I wouldn’t come back for her funeral and considering she’s fighting fit and will live till 110 I was able to tell her it was highly unlikely the need would arise) and heading to Tulla.
Australia is a remarkably long way away from the rest of the world and this is highlighted when sitting in row 51 on an Airbus overnight with four children; such an incredibly long trip.
1:00pm domestic flight to Sydney. Nice check-in lady turned a blind eye to our thirty-seven suitcases and didn’t charge us for over-weight. The benefits reaped when Qantas is asked to do Jetstar’s work they get a tad rebellious and it only benefits us customers!
International check-in and a few hours in Sydney while planes were switched and they put the faulty one away and pulled out a nice working airbus from the hanger. Good decision I thought and didn’t at all begrudge the extra 90 minutes wait. In fact Coach, Beach Culture, Lonely Planet and Oroton were most happy with the extra shopping time it gave me.
Elliot has decided to develop fear of flying. Which is a little annoying. But he also seemed to have developed fear of sitting still in the Qantas club which was greatly annoying, but more for the other passengers than us. Having ignored our relentless five hours of ‘stop running Elliot and sit down’ he slipped on the marble floor in the foyer as we were leaving and smashed up his top lip somewhat. The nice Qantas ladies were way more sympathetic than his parents.
Jetstar was the very best it could have been. The children slept fitfully. Luckily I bought the little doughnut pillow things for them, which helped them sleep a lot better. However, there is nothing like sleep deprivation and disorientation caused by jet lag to really throw a body out. Hopefully tomorrow is better.
Ironically we traveled over the international date line right on midnight.

Tick Tock

Thursday December 23, 2010

Well, I guess we pretty much know by now, as we did at 7.30am, that today is the day before Christmas Eve. It's like living with two town criers. You hear the really important things over and over.

Connor called tonight. he's been away the last two nights with friends at their century old stone cottage in the Kingston kind of area. Connor's friend is called Christopher Kuitenbrauer. They've been boarding at a near-by mountain called…

Chez Lamacraft

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

I have rudely coerced us an invitation to the lovely Lamacraft mansion because I have been dying to see their home. These are the people on the two acres in mid-town Toronto in the gorgeous parkland like area called Wychwood Park. It's an old artist settlement - 100 years? The…

More Sad Good-byes

Wednesday December 22, 2010

Lovely Caitlin and Richard Costley-White hosted a party for us tonight. They had a boy, Nathaniel in with Lucas last year and this year their Jeremy is in with Lucas. Both boys are darling but this Jeremy is in direct competition with Oscar Varkey for being the cutest dot ever! I do like 'em with a dose of imp and these two monkeys are imp all over!

Back to the party. It was at the incredibly gorgeous Costley-White Rosedale home.…

Ian,

If you get a chance could you see if there are any decent deals on Taylor Made golf clubs that may be easy for me to purchase. How do you want to do the punters club. $40 per month till race day in December. You may even be back, or not. Supercoach starts on Monday. We are expecting a very witty Canadian influenced name.
